Kumbia real estate: small-town living at the foot of the Bunya Mountains
Kumbia is a small town on the Bunya Highway, between Kingaroy and the Bunya Mountains. The highway is its main street, known in town as Bell Street. About 301 people lived in the locality at the 2021 census. The South Burnett Regional Council puts it about 32 km south-west of Kingaroy, in the foothills of the range.
A bit of history
Kumbia was once part of Taabinga Station. The Queensland Government auctioned 44 town lots in July 1912, each about 1,000 m². A post office followed in 1913, and Kumbia State School opened on 2 February 1914. The school celebrated its centenary in 2014. The name comes from the Waka language, but its meaning is uncertain. The Kumbia Federation Heritage Centre on Bell Street holds the district's photos and records and opens on Sunday afternoons or by appointment (Visit South Burnett).
Living here
The soil around Kumbia is rich red volcanic country. Farms grow peanuts, corn, stone fruit, and grapes, alongside grazing (council community plan). Some stone fruit growers here go back generations. The golf course is built around the local racetrack, with views to the Bunya Mountains.
The Bunya Mountains Road turn-off is about 4 km past Kumbia on the highway, so the national park is an easy drive. There's no secondary school in Kumbia, and the nearest government high school is in Kingaroy.
Homes and land
Kumbia suits buyers who want a quiet town block or acreage, with Kingaroy close enough for work, school, and shopping. I currently have a property listed on Kumbia Minmore Road.
Rural buyers here ask about water first: bores, dams, tanks, and any licences. Then they ask about access, fencing, and sheds. If you're selling, have those facts written down before the first inspection.

If you're buying
Drive in from Kingaroy at the times you'd normally travel. Check mobile coverage and internet at the address, and confirm what services the property is connected to.
If you're selling
Kumbia's selling points are space, soil, and the view to the range. Good aerial photos show all three. My $0 up-front marketing offer is open to the first 10 homeowners who list with me this spring.
See the current Kumbia listing on my Buy page, or contact me to talk about your property.
