Nanango real estate: one of Queensland's oldest towns, with acreage close by
Nanango is about 150 km north-west of Brisbane and one of the oldest towns in Queensland. It grew around Jacob Goode's inn, which opened in 1848 at the junction of the tracks to the Darling Downs and the Burnett Valley. The town was surveyed in 1861, and the first lots sold the next year. Gold was found at the Seven Mile Diggings in 1867. The rush didn't last, but the town did (Queensland Places).
The name comes from the Nanango pastoral run. It's believed to come from an Aboriginal word, possibly referring to a waterhole.
What the market has been doing
The Nanango median house price was $570,000 over the 12 months to June 2026, after growth of 32.56% (YIP/CoreLogic). That's close to Kingaroy's median, which tells you how much buyers now value the town.
Living here
Nanango has a full shopping area, trades, and local businesses. There's a hospital, State and Catholic primary schools, a high school, a golf course, a racecourse, and an agricultural show society that dates back to 1900. The 1937 court house is on the Queensland Heritage Register (Queensland Places). Kingaroy is a short drive away for anything else, and the D'Aguilar Highway runs towards Brisbane.
Homes and land
Nanango suits buyers who want a town block with history around them, or a few acres on the edge of town. Recent sales I've handled show both sides. In town there were Wills Street West, Chester Street, Bunker Avenue, and a larger 2,024 m² holding on Brisbane Street. Out of town, there was a block of around 2 hectares on Hamilton Road at South East Nanango. Right now I have land on Elouera Drive and Bushnells Road.
Acreage buyers ask the same questions every time: water, access in wet weather, fencing, sheds, and what the zoning allows. If you're selling, have those answers ready. The Queensland Government's free vegetation management report is worth getting too.

If you're buying
Spend a weekend in town. Check the drive to work in Kingaroy or further afield. If the block has a bore, dam, or septic system, ask about each one before you make an offer.
If you're selling
Nanango has its own buyers, and it also draws people from Brisbane and the coast who want space. Good photos, an aerial shot for acreage, and clear facts about the land do most of the work. My $0 up-front marketing offer is open to the first 10 homeowners who list with me this spring.
